Filing Fees:
The filing fee is $40.00 per petition, with the exception of portability petitions, which are $15.00. For any payment made with a credit card, Volusia County contracts a third-party vendor who charges a service fee of 2.95% with a $1.95 minimum for credit card payments.

Statutory Filing Deadlines for 2026

  • Mailing Date: June 15, 2026
  • Timely Petition Filing Deadline: July 15, 2026
  • Petition filing deadline is 30 days from the mailing date of the denial notice.

Notice of Proposed Property Taxes (TRIM Notices)

  • Mailing Date: August 17, 2026
  • Timely Petition Filing Deadline: September 11, 2026
  • Petition filing deadline is 25 days from the mailing date of the TRIM Notice.

Hearing Location:
Petition Hearings are held downtown Deland in the County Administration Building, located at 123 W. Indiana Ave., Suite 301, Deland (3rd Floor, County Managers Office). Any person who anticipates they will appeal a decision of the VAB should ensure a verbatim record of the proceeding is made (see s. 286.0105, F.S.). 

Petition hearings are open to the public. To observe a hearing, contact the deputy clerk for the daily schedule; schedules frequently change during hearing process.


Parking Information:

Free three-hour public parking is available in County Municipal Lot 11, located at 117 W. Rich Avenue, adjacent to the hearing location. Parking time limits are strictly enforced Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Limited electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are also available. Click here for a map.


Reschedule Rule:

Pursuant to Section 194.032(2), Florida Statutes, both the petitioner and the Property Appraiser are permitted one rescheduling request for good cause. All requests are subject to review and approval by the Board’s designated representative. If a hearing is rescheduled, the Clerk will provide notice at least fifteen (15) calendar days before the new hearing date unless both parties waive the notice requirement in writing.


Withdrawing a Petition:

DOR prescribes form DR-485WI for petition withdrawals. If you wish to withdraw your petition, please submit the completed form to the clerk prior to the scheduled hearing.
